Let’s face it… traveling is a lot of fun, but it can also be stressful. You have saved, planned and anticipated. Suddenly, it’s time to go! Maybe you’re worried about leaving whatever situation you have at home. Maybe you’re concerned that your money will run out. Maybe you’re just plain exhausted! The last thing you want to think about is how to look good on your trip. But looking good and feeling good are important contributors to the entire success of your trip!
How can you plan so that you look your best while traveling?
1. Get plenty of sleep before traveling.
Most of the time we don’t get as much rest when traveling as we get at home, so go ahead and plan to get to bed early for a few nights before you leave home.
Once on the plane, try to get sleep before you arrive at your destination. A good sleep mask and earplugs can help immensely with this!
2. Don’t overdress.
Choose unconstricting but fashionable clothing like elastic waist skinny pants or travel pants with a matching top and a complementary cardi. A pretty silk scarf, minimal jewelry and flats or sneakers complete the outfit. If you aren’t wearing socks, throw a pair into your purse to slip on during the flight since planes are known for being cold. Wearing slip-on shoes and no belt will also help you breeze right through airport security.
Try to plan your outfits before you leave home. Make notes in a small notebook that you can take with you on your trip so that you know what your options are at-a-glance. This will save time when getting dressed each morning and will alleviate you of having to make an early-morning decision.
3. Pay special attention to your skin.
Flying on a plane is known for drying out the skin. Moisturize before you go to sleep on the plane. Several good moisturizers: CeraVe Moisturizing Facial Lotion, Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream, or La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream in a travel size.
Wash your face when you wake up. This will really make you feel rested and refreshed:Olay Sensitive Facial Cloths or Cetaphil Gentle cleansing Cloths. Another refreshing idea is to spritz with a hydrating facial mist such as Philosophy Hope In Jar Hydrating Mist .
4. Don’t wear much makeup.
Moisturize, then use minimal foundation and no mascara. A light cream blushL’oreal Cream Blushis great for not drying out the skin during the flight and a tinted lip balm keeps lips moisturized.carmex: Carmex Hydrating Lip Balm, Sheer Berry Tint.
The new mineral based foundations are excellent for light coverage when traveling.Bare Minerals Starter Kit (Medium) by Bare Escentuals.
It’s probably a good idea to pack all of your skin-care essentials and make-up in one zip lock bag to take onto the plane in your purse or tote bag so that they are convenient to retrieve the moment you need them.
5. Wear your hair in the most manageable style possible.
Wash your hair before you leave home and if a ponytail or hair pulled up into a casual style works for you, by all means, do it. This is the time to be comfortable, with a no-fuss hairdo. When you wake up on the plane, it won’t take but a minute to redo that ponytail or clip that hair back up. Remember, when traveling, less is definitely more.
6. Pack a healthy snack for the flight.
Fruit, granola, and vegetable sticks are all great snacks to take with you on the plane. Put into zip-lock bags and have them in your tote bag. Also, drink plenty of water. Water is always good for you, nutrition-wise and for hydration. You will feel better and therefore, LOOK better, too!
7. Take your time and ENJOY yourself! Traveling is FUN!
Try not to spend your entire vacation running from place to place. Slow down and remember the reason you came. You came to see a new place, to experience the culture, to eat great food and to drink great wine. If you are worn out from constant motion, it’s going to be hard to absorb it all.
Give yourself a break and stop to smell the roses. Bon voyage!
