If you are already blogging, one of your goals is probably to become a more successful blogger. Being successful at anything motivates us to continue to do it and to work harder toward improvement so that we can continue to be successful.
But “success” means different things to different people.
What is “success” to you? What do you hope to achieve with your blog? Is it to make money from your blog or to reach a large audience and to have a lot of followers? Or is your goal to help people solve a problem or to teach others how to do something?
Here the steps broken down into smaller bites so that you can accomplish your goal of being a successful blogger, whatever it means to you:
1. Decide what you want to accomplish.
This is “setting your goal.” When your ideas are all over the place, it is difficult to focus on what you need to do. The first step in achieving success in any area of life is deciding WHAT you want to accomplish and then you can determine how to get there.
2. Narrow down your ideas.
If you haven’t already started a blog, think about what type of blog you would like to have and choose a niche. What are your interests? Cooking? Travel? Finance? Blogging? Choose a topic that you really like, because, trust me, you will spend a lot of time thinking and writing about it as you grow your blog.
When you have clearly established what you want to do, the planning stage will be painless.
If you already have a blog, take a close look at it and make sure that it is not TOO broadly niched. Are you blogging about any and everything? Choose a few topics and stick to those.
3. Make a plan.
Sit down and actually write out what steps you need to take to accomplish your goal. Be as detailed as possible. Brainstorm different ways to reach this goal. With a plan in place you will see what you need to do first to get the ball rolling.
4. Make a daily schedule.
A daily schedule keeps us on track and focused on what we need to accomplish. Every night, write out a schedule of what you will do the next day and then stick to your schedule. Put the hardest job on the top of the list and get it out of the way to start with. After that, everything else is a piece of cake!
I use a technique to schedule my day that has made a huge difference in my productivity. I explain it in the post, HOW TO CRUSH YOUR TO-DO LIST.
5. To be successful, you have to do the work.
It seems that this should go without saying, but if you are a writer, you have to write. If you are an artist, you have to paint. Whatever you are claiming to be…you have to be that by working to produce the final product. In other words, to be a successful blogger, you first have to start a blog and then you have to stick with it!
6. To be a successful blogger you have to promote your work.
Writing the post is just the beginning, because after that, you then have to share your post on social media channels as well as on your blog. The more you share it, the more traffic is driven to your post. There are many ways to promote your blog posts. Here are tips that will help: HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR BLOG POSTS
7. Increase your social media following.
The larger your audience, the wider your reach. Since your goal as a blogger is to reach as many readers as possible, top on your to-do list should be to grow your social media following and as a result, grow your blog.
One proven way to increase eyes on your blog is to increase your followers on Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and any other social media. Pinterest has been a great source of traffic for us. HOW WE GREW OUR PINTEREST ACCOUNT TO OVER 5000 FOLLOWERS
8. Start an email list.
Growing your email list is important because these are the people who are sincerely interested in what you have to say. They are your “targeted audience.”
They have signed up to get your emails which means that they want to hear from you. Conversions from your email list are proven to be higher than from random campaigns.
When we first started blogging, we used Mailchimp to grow our list. As the list got larger, however, we switched to ConvertKit to handle the growth. We love the simplicity of creating opt-ins with ConvertKit and have seen massive growth in building our list since we started using ConvertKit. HOW TO EASILY GROW YOUR E-MAIL LIST
9. Become an authority in your niche.
Listen to your audience. Give them the help and the solutions that they are looking for. If you don’t know the answer to something, do research and find it out! Read, study, learn. Become an expert in your field and share your knowledge with others. Remember that your readers are king.
10. Commit to the job and don’t give up!
There will be many times that you will want to stop blogging, but keep at it. Remember, the only successful bloggers are those who are STILL BLOGGING. If you get discouraged and decide to stop blogging, you can be assured that you will not be a successful blogger. Persevere through the hard times and the slow times to grow your blog and DON’T GIVE UP!
