As we’ve said before, nothing has driven traffic to our blog like Pinterest has. Month after month, Pinterest is our #1 source for traffic.
If you’re ready to get started with reaping the benefits of Pinterest OR if you’ve already started, here are our basic tips for driving traffic.
First of all, set up a Pinterest BUSINESS account. There are several advantages of having a Pinterest business account.
ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A PINTEREST BUSINESS ACCOUNT
A Pinterest business account will help you to look more professional. If you plan to conduct business and make money from your blog, then a Pinterest business account is a must.
Secondly, you can connect your blog and business name to your Pinterest account. This is definitely a great way to promote your blog or website.
Another advantage of having a Pinterest business account is that you can use keywords in your profile description. Keywords help your site to be found by Google and as a result, to be indexed by Google. A definite plus for your business!
Still another advantage of having a business account is that your pins will be created as “rich pins.” Rich pins enable you to show more details on your pins such as your website name and targeted keywords. Read our post HERE on why you need Rich Pins and how to set them up on your Pinterest account.
All of these things will help to bring more traffic to your website.
Finally, a Pinterest business account connects you to Pinterest Analytics. Pinterest Analytics is important because it gives you insight into helpful information, for example, how many people see your pins, how many people save your pins, and how many times viewers click over to your website.
CONVERT YOUR PERSONAL PINTEREST ACCOUNT TO A BUSINESS ACCOUNT OR SET UP A NEW BUSINESS ACCOUNT
You may already have a Pinterest personal account and if that is the case, you should convert your Pinterest personal account to a Pinterest business account.
Why? Because you will retain all of those followers that you already have on your personal account.
This is simple to do. Just follow the steps below.
TO CONVERT YOUR PINTEREST PERSONAL ACCOUNT TO A PINTEREST BUSINESS ACCOUNT:
1. Log in to your Pinterest personal account
2. Click on drop-down menu at top right and select “Upgrade to a business account.”
3. Enter your e-mail address and click “continue.”
4. On the next screen, enter your business name and description, then click “next.”
5. Put in your website’s url to connect it to Pinterest.
6. Connect your Instagram, Etsy and Youtube accounts to Pinterest.
7. Answer the question about whether or not you will run ads on your Pinterest profile. You can say “I’m not sure yet” if you so choose.
8. Click “Next.” That’s it! You now have a Pinterest business account!
If you don’t already have a Pinterest personal account, then just go ahead and set up a brand new business account.
Enter the e-mail address that you will use with your Pinterest account, create a special password and click on “create account.”
3. Set your language and country
Next, check your “language” and “country.”
4. Set your business name and business description
In the next space, fill in your business name and what type of business it is. I just chose “brand” for my blog. Click “next.”
5. Connect to your blog or website
Next, you will enter your website. Be sure to begin with https:// if that is your prefix. If you do not have a website, click “later” to come back and set this up. If you have filled in your website, then click “next” to go to the next screen.
6. Claim your other accounts
If you have an Instagram, Etsy or Youtube account, you can connect them or claim them here on this page. Click “next” or click “later” to come back to this later.
7. Indicate if you plan to use ads on your Pinterest account
Here is where you say if you plan to use ads on your Pinterest account. You can click “yes,” “no,” or “not sure” and then “next.”
8. Choose the topics that apply to you
Choose the topics that you think apply to your business. This just lets Pinterest know what kinds of pins you would be interested in seeing in your feed.
9. Install the Pinterest browser button
Now you have the option of choosing whether or not you want the Pinterest browser button installed on your computer which will enable you to save ideas when you are visiting other websites and blogs. Click “get it now” or “skip.”
10. Edit your profile
After setting up this part of your account, now go to the top right corner and click on the three dots. From the drop-down menu go to “settings” to set up your profile.
The first thing to do is to edit your profile. From your computer, upload a nice headshot where it says Photo and “change.” Your readers will relate to you better if you have a nice photo of yourself there.
Underneath that, fill in your business name and then the username that you would like to use.
Next, write something about yourself and your business in the box that is titled “about your profile.” This is a good place to use keywords that best describe what your business is all about.
Finally, add your location. This does not have to be too specific. You can just put the state.
11. Fill in your account settings
From the drop-down menu on the left, choose Account Settings. Fill in your email address. Your country and language will already be filled in. Add the contact name that you would like to use.
Choose your login options. You can log in with your Facebook account or just with your email. Use the email address that you used when setting up this Pinterest business account to keep it all simple.
At the bottom of this page is where you would come if you wanted to convert to a personal account or deactivate your Pinterest account.
12. Claim your website and other accounts
Now you have to claim your website and then your other accounts. This connects your Pinterest Analytics.
Enter the url for your website.
Click on the red buttons that say “Claim” to claim your Instagram, your Etsy and your Youtube accounts. If you don’t have any of these, skip this part.
13. Indicate how you want to receive notifications from Pinterest
Go back to the drop-down menu on the left and click on “Notifications.” This just tells how you would like to be notified by Pinterest.
14. Privacy and data
Under “Privacy & Data” you can indicate that you want to hide your site from search engines. DO NOT CLICK THIS BOX. The last thing that you want is to be hidden from Google!
15. Security
Here you can learn about two-factor authentication and see what devices have logged in to your account.
After this, there is a place to see Pinterest Apps, if you’re interested, but as for your Pinterest business account, it has been created!
The next thing to do is to start creating and curating beautiful pins to attract your audience. For more on this, check out these posts:
