It’s really not difficult to grow your Pinterest following. Just stick with it and work consistently and you’ll see progress!
Following these tips has helped us to grow our Pinterest followers to over 5000 in a relatively short period of time.
Without a doubt, Pinterest has been a game-changer for driving traffic and building an audience on our blog.
Sure, you can just share a few pins on Pinterest and hope for the best, but actually there are several things that you can and SHOULD do to optimize your Pinterest account. Paying attention to these tips will help you to build a following and ultimately to drive traffic to your website.
Before you start implementing all these great Pinterest tips, you will need to set up a Pinterest business account.
TIPS FOR REACHING MORE PINTEREST FOLLOWERS:
1. YOUR PROFILE:
Go to “Settings” in Pinterest and take a look at your profile. It is important for this to tell the complete story of who you are and what you do.
In the “About You” section, use keywords that go with your brand and your focus. Add your location and a link to your website.
Choose a photograph that you feel represents you and your business. A head shot is always a good choice, but make sure that it is bright, easy to see and in focus.
2. DESIGN YOUR PINTEREST BOARDS:
Make sure that you have a variety of Pinterest boards and that the subjects of your boards represent what your blog is all about.
For example, if you are a food blogger, you could have “Appetizers,” “Main Dishes,” “Desserts” etc. If you are a travel blogger, you could have “Travel Destinations” or boards that each represent a place, like “New York City” or “Venice, Italy.”
If you have too many personal boards showing, there is no need to delete them, just make them secret. Your visitors cannot see your secret boards. They are only visible to you
HOW TO MAKE A PINTEREST BOARD SECRET:
Click on the “edit” symbol in the lower right corner of the board that you want to make secret.
When the next window opens, simply toggle the switch that is marked “secret” to the right and click the “Save” button in the lower right corner.
That’s it! The board is now secret and only you can see it. To undo the action, just toggle switch to the left and click “Save.”
3. MAKE SURE YOUR BOARDS ARE OPTIMIZED FOR SEO:
Title each of your Pinterest boards with appropriate keywords that are relevant to that board. Put these in the description box under “edit your board.” This will help your boards to show up when someone is searching on Pinterest for that particular subject.
Then choose the appropriate category for each board from the drop-down menu and click “Save.”
4. ADD THE SAVE BUTTON TO YOUR BLOG:
Add a Pinterest “save” button to each page and post on your website. This makes it simple and easy for your visitors to save and pin your content.
There are several WordPress plugins that provide reliable Pinterest save buttons for your WordPress site, such as the Social Warfare plugin, Shareaholic, and Social Media Share Buttons.
When choosing a plugin for your site, always check to see if it is compatible with your site as well as how many active installations the plugin has. A high number tells you that the plugin is popular and that it has been used successfully on many blogs, indications that it will probably perform well on your blog, too.
5. ADD A FOLLOW BUTTON TO YOUR BLOG:
Have a follow button on your website to make it easy for visitors to become followers of your Pinterest account.
The more followers that you have, the more your content is seen and shared, which will build up your audience considerably. WordPress sites can use a plugin for this.
Try the plugin, “Add Pinterest Follow Button.” That is the one that we use and it has brought us many new followers on our Pinterest account.
6. INTERACT ON PINTEREST DAILY:
You need to interact on Pinterest often and regularly. Your Pinterest activity is sort of like compound interest. It starts slowly but builds up as time goes by.
Regular pinning and sharing on Pinterest might not skyrocket your account today, but if you keep at it, after awhile you will see growth in your blog traffic.
7. GET A PINTEREST BUSINESS ACCOUNT:
If you are using Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog or your website, then you need to get a Pinterest business account. The main advantage to having a Pinterest business account is that along with it, you get Pinterest Analytics!
Pinterest Analytics will give you insight into your Pinterest audience and into the stats for your Pinterest profile and your website. More detailed analytics are available for each category.
8. TO GROW PINTEREST FOLLOWING, JOIN PINTEREST GROUP BOARDS:
The most important piece of advice that I can give as far as using Pinterest to grow your blog is to join Pinterest group boards.
Pinning to group boards allows your pin to be seen not only by your own followers, but also by all the followers of all the members of that particular group board. This increases the eyes on your pin exponentially which will usually result in many more visitors to your blog.
Look at the most popular and most successful bloggers in your niche and join group boards that they belong to. Send a hundred emails if you need to! Unfortunately, most times it takes awhile to hear back from the owners of those boards, but don’t give up! When you get the invitation to join a group board, accept it, and start pinning. Just make sure you follow the rules for each group board.
We have a group board and would love for you to join it. To do this, just:
1. Follow us on Pinterest HERE
2. Then request to join our board, BLOGGING SUPERSTARS and follow the instructions
Try implementing all of these tips to see growth in your Pinterest followers and ultimately see massive growth in your website traffic!
