SEO is Search Engine Optimization. This means that your blog has everything required to be found by search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.
When your pages are OPTIMIZED for SEO, they rank higher in search engines and are more easily found by people who are searching for particular keywords related to your content.
Knowing exactly what your blog should have in order to be recognized by search engines is extremely important. Recognition by search engines is one thing that directs readers to your blog.
What do you need to have on your blog to increase SEO?
This is the plugin that we use on our blog to optimize content for search engines.
This plugin guides you through exactly what you need to have in your post to improve your chances of ranking higher in search engines.
Take a close look at your blog post to determine what words directly relate to the content. The specific words that you choose are the “keywords.” Focusing on only one or two keywords and placing them strategically throughout your blog will help you to rank higher in search engines.
For best results these keywords should be placed in your headline, throughout your post, into the URL and in the meta description. The Yoast SEO plugin will guide you through this.
The meta description is the text that tells your reader what the post is about. When someone searches on google for information, the meta description pops up and tells them what your post is about. They read the description and decide if they want to read your post.
Yoast SEO plugin will show you exactly where to type in the meta description. You should add a keyword-rich description of your post in the meta description box.
USE H-2 TAGS:
When writing your blog post, you should use H-2 headings with your keywords in several different places. Google will search your posts for H-2 headings and this will also help to rank your blog higher in search engines.
LINK TO OTHER POSTS ON YOUR SITE
This is called “linking internally.” Not only will it boost your SEO, but it will also get you more pageviews because it keeps readers clicking around on your blog.
OPTIMIZE YOUR IMAGES:
You know by now that readers respond to images. But search engines respond to the written description that goes along with the image. This is known as “alt text.”
Just as the meta description tells what the post is about, the alt text tells what the image is about. Google and other search engines don’t see pictures but instead rely on the description in the alt text to tell them about the image.
Each of your images should have a title and should also have descriptive alt text.
